Job Purpose

BBC StoryWorks, the BBC’s global creative content division, is seeking a Content Manager to support StoryWorks APAC and the Japan Sales team in developing and delivering innovative and high-quality content solutions across existing and prospective client portfolio in Japan.

Seeking a client facing, collaborative, and adaptable candidate who can interface with sales teams, help to develop bilingual content pitches and manage the delivery of those content campaigns with our Japanese clients.

This role requires a bilingual candidate with strong experience in managing digital content development across multiple formats and commercial experience working directly with advertising clients on branded content across English and Japanese.

The main daily accountabilities for this role encompass two areas, working with the Japan sales team and lead creative on interrogating and responding to briefs with a bilingual response, as well as working across the delivery of the final content solution with Japanese clients. This includes attending client meetings, being on set, and attending interviews/photoshoots for content creation.

This person must have strong understanding of content creation with commercial clients and have a keen understanding of the competitive landscape. They will have a strong ability to communicate story and strategy effectively to clients and contacts in the local production community is a plus.

This person can coordinate work done by others, on deadline, while liaising with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the highest quality of work to BBC standards.

The role reports to the Creative Director and the Head of Sales Japan, BBC StoryWorks APAC


Responsibilities

Commissioning and content development

  • Helping to interrogate briefs and present local knowledge to assist the lead creative on content strategy brief responses.
  • To translate and communicate all content communications to local clients
  • To lead on won projects in delivery with assistance from the APAC project management team.
  • To attend meetings with the sales team and help to communicate and ideate with clients for proactive briefs and RFPs
  • To work closely with editorial teams in understanding and communicating editorial output to sponsoring partners.
  • Responsible for quality control of all custom commercial content output
  • Develop a broad understanding of BBC assets and channels
  • Actively engage ad products, research, insights, sales teams, editorial teams, compliance officers to understand how to work with internal stakeholders with the assistance and support of the Storyworks APAC team.
  • Help to facilitate and communicate with 3rd parties such as featured japanese contributors or locations to obtain their official permission to featured the contributor/location/product.
  • Brainstorm and write creative content strategy plans

Business Development

  • Championing category insights in the region and incentivising the team to utilize and evolve to ensure maximum response effectiveness and campaign impact
  • Forge key relationships with creative teams at agencies to ensure BBC StoryWorks is front of mind for creative executions
  • To create working relationships with new contributors, and build on existing ones
  • Monitoring all competitive titles and international press for relevant commercial content feedback analysis

Qualifications

  • Min 5 years experience in social, content or digital coordination in client facing roles. Agency experience a plus.
  • Bilingual and comfortable communicating and writing in Japanese and English
  • Experience in either video production, written content storytelling, or creative design, with a combination of these three skills a plus
  • Experience in working with native/client-funded content/content marketing
  • Excellent people, client and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and flexible
  • Deep understanding of current social, branded content, digital, mobile and tablet landscapes
